The county of Melgaço rises from the banks of the Minho River, to the steep slopes of the Peneda and Soajo Ranges. Each step of the way is marked by spectacular vistas, which will remain indelible in your memory.
The "Lamas de Mouro Camp Ground" is located in the heart of the national park of Peneda-Geres, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful regions of the Iberian Peninsula.

The principal characteristic and wealth of this park is the continuing human occupation by an agricultural based society, which to this day still practices "transumância" of its cattle - the annual transfer of herds from summer to winter pastures. This human presence in harmony with soaring eagles, herds of wild horses, mountain goats, and wolves.

Rich in stories and history, you'll be charmed as you listen to the lore as told by these people, descendants of the builders of "castros" and dolmens, whose women dress in the black of mourning when their men folk wander far to work.
